Website Updating

We have a list of things we would like to do to the design of our website. As our site is designed and maintained in house, it is difficult to find time to make major changes to the site.

Above there is a poll of site 'wishes' - some are things we would like to do and some are requests by customers.

What we would like from forum members is an idea of which are the most important to you.

1. BASKET LINK - Craft Bits and Craft Kits already have this done so you can check it there if you wish. Basically, each item in the basket is a link back to the page where the item was. This makes it easy to go back to shop. Big Job but if it comes out top we will do it - possibly over a few days. DONE

2. EMAIL UPDATE - We send out a monthly email update and feel it could look much slicker. It should not be too big a job - just a matter of finding the right template. But do you think this is important?

3. SITE COLOURS - We have had customers say the colours on the site are a bit too much. We think it makes it stand out, but what do you think, should we make them more pastel?

4. SLIDE SHOWS - we know you like the fact we show the pictures in books with the number of balls. The slide show is a bit clunky and opens in a new window (which some customers don't like) but if we change it to a slick slide show we would not be able to put the number of balls on. If you choose this option as important you are saying the number of balls is NOT important.

5. FAQ'S - We have a lot of FAQ's online but again the way they are done is not very slick. Would you like a better, searchable, FAQ section? Please Note - we cannot put a site search box on.

6. SIDE NAV BAR - As our site uses 'frames' (3 sections - top and side do not move) the side navigation bar is always visible so you can easily go to any main section of the site. Would you like that updated so that there is a secondary set of options which 'pop out' when you click each section?

7. TOP NAV BAR - Similar to above but about the top navigation bar (site maps, forum, contact us, terms, info). Would you like that updated so there is a secondary set of options for each section which drops down when you click it? i.e. - forum would have Guestbook, Facebook page and Blog under it. Info would have a list of all our info pages under it.

Item One on the Poll has got the most votes (2) so that is what we have done first.

The shopping basket links have been done for all products on the website.

It has taken a while as there are a lot of "Add to Basket" buttons on the website and each one had to be edited - 5934 in total on 2206 pages

So now when you add an item to the basket the item should have a line under it to indicate it is a link. When you click that item you will be taken back to the page it was ordered on.

This means that you can shop on lots of different pages and then go back to the first item page you put in the cart - or any others.

Obviously with so many manual edits to a website, there may well be some we have missed or got wrong. If you have any problems at all then please do let us know - your feedback is very welcome.
