I have a Sirdar Denim chunky pattern for a ladies jacket with cable on the fronts. I have made this once and wondered if I could do it again without the cable.Would there be less sts if the fronts were not in cable. Does anyone know whether more stitches are called for with a cable than if you were knitting a non cable pattern?

think this is one for the experts, if you lose some stitches on the fronts would it throw the sleeve dec's out on the pattern. suppose you could try it on the next size down.

It does depend a bit how big a cable it is, but yes a cable normally means more stitches than a plain stocking stitch item would have.
As you say the cable is only on the fronts try looking at how many stitches there are in the back and then see if each front is significantly more than half the stitches for the back. If not you should be OK to go ahead.

If there is a big difference then you will have to reduce the stitches for a plain front.
What kind of sleeve/armhole does the design have? Some are much easier to handle with altered stitch numbers than others.
