The following is a handy tip from another section of the forum which I thought should be in the Tips section too.

the suggested wraps for 3ply per inch or 2.54 cm is 16-18, and 4 ply is 14. Just wind carefully and evenly round a ruler or really large needler and count the strands per inch, then do a tension square to be absolutely sure .Hope this helps.
