Royal Mail Postage Price Rise 2012

Post by admin »

Royal Mail have told us that their prices are increasing in April and, more worryingly, they are changing the Packets price bands. They are making all parcels up to 750g the same price instead of 4 price bands. This means sending a 50g ball will cost almost double what it does now and cost us the same as a 500g pack.

Unfortunately they will not be telling us the new prices until the week before they go up. We may have to look at putting the flat rate P+P price up, which we have not done since 2007.

We will also be looking at the Pattern Leaflet P+P price which last went up a couple of years ago.

Well by now you will probably have all heard the massive rise in the Royal Mail prices.

We are pretty annoyed that our business prices will be going up on 2nd April but the stamp prices are not going up until end of April. We would rather all prices went up on the same day - preferably the later the better

We have been actively looking at other delivery options but none of them are interested in the large selection of sizes we send. They prefer them to be all the same size or at least have some idea of how many we would send in each size - impossible to predict.

We are at a lost on how to adjust our prices because of the change in the bands stated in the previous post. And time is getting short, so any rise will be at very short notice. Many Google pages and other places our site is advertised will be wrong for quite a while - not much we can do about that as we have very little control over things like that.

We will put on a poll with options but if you would rather email or pm me then please do - but time is of the essence

We are looking at if we can keep the Book P+P prices at £2.50. This will mean 3 different prices for P+P - Leaflets, Books and Others. We may be able to keep some needles and accessories in the £2.50 price band too.

This will only be up to a certain amount - basically anything that might go through the 25mm thickness slot which would make it a large letter rather than packet.

Will you find this confusing? Would you rather just pay one price for everything, including leaflets?

Please do let us know.

Royal Mail Prices to us go up on Monday 2nd April 2012 but we will not be changing anything until mid April.

Keep an eye on here for more info.

BTW - Some Airmail prices are going up by over 80%. Our non-UK S+P prices are calculated on the actual weight of the parcel. The new prices will be implemented on any Non-UK order placed after 24th April or on any S+P quote accepted after 9am on Friday 27th April 2012.

[Admin edit] The new prices are fully in force for both UK and Non-UK orders.

As so few customers have voted on the poll we can only go with what we have worked out as needing to cover postage, visa, packaging costs which have all risen in the last few years since our last p+p increase.

We are looking at the following structure

Pattern Leaflet only orders
1 pattern to 5 patterns - £1.50
6 patterns to 24 patterns - £2.50
over 24 patterns - £2.95

Book only orders (plus some accessories)
1 book to 4 books - £2.50
over 4 books - £2.95

All other items (including normal knitting needles)
£2.95 which is the maximum UK P+P charge

Obviously if you mix patterns and books the prices rise before those limits. Please check out this link - http://www.cpu-enterprises.com/postage.htm

If this is not the direction you would like us to go in please let us know. Do you think this is too confusing? Should all prices be the same?

Equally, if you think this is acceptable please let us know.

The prices will rise on 20th April so any order placed after 12.30pm on Friday 20th April 2012 will be at the higher P+P price.
