We all had a bit of a go at Sirdar on this thread.
I thought I would just point out that other companies can get it wrong sometimes.
I am using a Stylecraft pattern number 4924 which is a few years old now. It is for a ladies waistcoat in 4 ply and has a lace panel down the fronts. It is the first time I have used it and it had me raging for a while because the instructions for the lace panel are wrong. Fortunately I have found the exact same lace design in my copy of Mary Thomas's Knitting Patterns and have been able to correct the errors and get working on my project. A less experienced knitter could well have thought it was them and given up.
I am not posting this to blame Stylecraft just to point out that these mistakes do happen.

Lots of patterns do get corrected after publishing and if it was an oldish pattern then a new one may already have been corrected. Well done for thinking of looking in a pattern book - not sure I would have thought of that.
I guess with publishing costs so high they can't just right off a whole batch so when they find out they put error slips in the patterns or books. Then if those patterns get passed on or stored or moved about, those slips could become detached.
I am sure there must be websites out there that do list error in patterns - if anyone knows where please post here.
BTW - Even new 'quality' books have errors. One of the new Sublime books (615) has an error slip in it.

A bit late now but I ordered some Bamboo in a sale for a friend to knit a cardi for her granddaughter. Ordered 4 balls. She rang me in a panic to ask if I could order her two more balls. As her granddaughter is approaching 3 I thought 6 balls too much but said I would get them for her. They didn't have any more of the colour, which was a lovely pink. So I had to get it somewhere else at the full price. The dye no was not the same but it didn't show. However, the two extra balls with post and packing came to £12!!! So it came out as a very expensive cardi for a little one. It does look nice though and has a lovely drape. Having said all that, when I looked at a Bamboo pattern, it does take considerably more than normal dk. Won't be getting it again for anyone!
